Historically, five-batch testing is performed on technical grade active ingredients of traditional agrochemicals. However, as the conventional pesticide landscape continues to change, it brings new challenges, such as how to conduct a five-batch analysis of
biopesticides and natural products.
Before conducting the definitive
5-batch analysis, a preliminary screen to assess the impurities of the test material is recommended. The preliminary screen is a key component in overcoming the challenges associated with 5-batch testing, specifically, if it reveals unknown or unexpected levels of an impurity, which is deemed to be at or greater than 0.1% w/w. This assists the progression of an efficient 5-batch analysis study, but can also support the client in selecting a suitable manufacturer to develop their product to meet specifications and regulatory requirements prior to conducting the 5-batch analysis study.
Natural products and biologically derived pesticides, in particular, bring new challenges not only in how to conduct the preliminary analysis successfully, but also in how to validate active ingredient and impurities methods in these complex test substances.
During this
AGRO Lunch & Learn webinar, Smithers expert Dr. Charles Nyamekye will give a brief review on 5-batch preliminary testing and method requirements and highlight strategies developed and lessons learned to overcome the challenges faced in registering different types of products with global regulatory bodies.
