Dr Jason Davies

Lead Principal Scientist, Gel Permeation Chromatography in United Kingdom

Jason has 17 years’ experience in all aspects of chromatographic, spectroscopic, and spectrometric analysis covering a wide variety of rubber and plastics materials. Initially joining Smithers as a consultant in polymer analytical chemistry, Jason draws upon his diverse analytical background to develop novel approaches to assist and solve client issues.

Expertise: Gel permeation chromatography, polymer molecular weight characterisation, viscosity measurement of polymers by dilute solution viscometry

Jason now heads the Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) laboratory. The laboratory is equipped with several instruments each dedicated to certain eluents and chromatographic conditions that allow molecular weight characterisation of a wide range of polymer types.

Working with GPC is thoroughly enjoyable – the variety of samples submitted means that every day is different and collaborating with such a diverse and knowledgeable client base is very rewarding.

Qualifications and professional accreditation

After undertaking his BSc (Hons.) and Masters degrees, Jason completed a PhD in Migration of Adhesives in Food Packaging at DeMontfort University, Leicester.
