Recovered Carbon Black - Sustainability

Sustainability is becoming increasingly important to businesses and consumers alike. Manufacturers are experimenting with a diverse variety of strategies to improve the sustainability of both their products and business practices.

In the rubber and polymer industry, leaders and innovators are exploring the possibilities of using recovered carbon black in a variety of applications. Recovered black is extracted from scrap tires, namely passenger, TBR, and light truck tires, using large-scale pyrolizers. Most recovery is executed by rubber and plastic recyclers, who then sell the recovered carbon black—as well as oil and steel—to manufacturers and custom mixers. The tire industry represents a sizable segment of the recovered carbon black market, but recovered carbon black is also used in manufactured rubber goods.
