There are a variety of wheel impact test standards that evaluate the durability of wheels for use in multiple end use applications such as passenger cars and trucks. The tests mimic real-world impacts to understand the effects on wheel construction.
Road Impact Testing
Designed to mimic pothole and curb strike impacts, road impact testing can provide a better understanding of your wheel’s performance against these hazards. Smithers can test to a variety of common industry test methods:
SAE J175 – Provides an evaluation of curb impact properties on the wheel
SAE 1981- Evaluates performance against frontal impact on tire and wheel assemblies
Drop Impact Testing
Drop impact testing involves a standardized weight and striker heads used to impact the wheel from specific angles and heights. Smithers can provide testing on wheels up to 42” in diameter and can conduct both industry and OEM standards.
