Smithers announced that it will add thermal shock testing services at its Lansing, Michigan facility, enhancing services to the automotive industry. The new service will be showcased at the 2015 Automotive Testing Expo (ATE) in Novi, Michigan on October 20 – 22, 2015 in the Smithers Booth 8046.

The new thermal shock chamber enhances Smithers' product testing capabilities to meet the needs of major automakers and suppliers in the U.S. The new service simulates harsh conditions by exposing products and components to wide, rapid swings in temperature to test for proper material and final product performance. The equipment will feature:

  • 38" x 26" x 18" basket size to accommodate larger parts
  • Temperature range of -65 C to 200 C
  • Test load of 17 kg
  • Basket does not move within the chamber allowing for parts to easily be powered on / off of oriented in a specific fashion
  • Can monitor accross the soder joints on circuit boards during testing

“Our goal for these expanded capabilities is to provide our clients with more tools to meet internal and external testing requirements,” said Jeff Andrasik, Product Test Manager for Smithers “Enhancing our services and providing new options to our clients helps to streamline their processes and set them up for future success.”

Smithers will also be highlighting its full range of product testing capabilities for ATE attendees. Smithers experts have years of industry experience in a multitude of standard and custom testing specifications that cover tires, wheels, hoses, fluid transfer systems, rubber and plastic components and vehicle electronics.
