Summary

Test Procedure 7D covers the thermal performance testing of packaged products to evaluate the effect of external temperature exposure.

The standard can be used for the development of temperature-controlled transport packages made of any material.
It can also be used for individual or comparative performance analysis of standard or insulated transport packages against normally encountered conditions. ISTA 7D is designed to measure the relative ability of a package to protect a product when exposed to test cycles of temperature conditions. When testing to ISTA 7D, the product and the package are considered together and separately. ISTA 7D is not intended to evaluate the protection afforded packaged-products from shock, vibration and/or compression.

Test Details

Requirements may include:

  1. Temperature pre-conditioning
  2. Atmospheric conditioning (1st cycle of selected test profile)
  3. Atmospheric conditioning (2nd cycle of selected test profile)
  4. Atmospheric conditioning (3rd cycle of selected test profile)

This method tests all types of packaging
