In the US, regulatory information about pesticides (including biocides) falls under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), also known as the EPA Pesticides Act, and may also be subject to the criteria defined under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA). In the EU, approving active substances and authorizing biocidal products falls under the European Biocidal Products Regulation (EU BPR) 528/2012 of the European Commission and is supported by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). Smithers will partner with you to develop and execute a test plan to assess that the compliance of your biocides meets the applicable regulations.

Services: In response to the ECHA/EFSA “Guidance document on the impact of water treatment processes on residues of active substances or their metabolites in water abstracted for the production of drinking water,” (July 2023), Smithers Environmental Fate scientists have developed a suite of tests that meet the requirements for this the latest regulatory need.
