AMS 3218E refers to a fluorocarbon (FKM) elastomer used in components that come into contact with a wide variety of fuels, synthetic lubricants, and hydraulic fluids while in service, as well as ambient atmosphere. Typical service temperatures for these components range from -20°F (-29°C) to 400°F (204°C).

AMS 3218E is appropriate for FKM elastomer sheets, strips, tubing, extrusions, and molded shapes of silicone rubber. It is not suitable for molded rings or O-ring cord, compression seals, or molded-in-place gaskets. Additionally, this class of elastomers may not be compatible with certain high temperature stabilized (HTS) engine oils, though this should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
